Cameron is a highly experienced mechanical engineer whose entire career has been rooted in the nuclear industry. He began as an indentured apprentice with British Nuclear Fuels plc in 1989, gaining the kind of hands-on, site-level foundation that shapes genuinely reliable engineers.
More than three decades on, his most recent roles have included experience working with Westinghouse European based staff a Regulatory Interface Engineer for the GDA Stage 1 submission for the AP300 Small Modular Reactor, one of the most significant new nuclear programmes in the UK and evaluation the Westinghouse AP1000 Nuclear Reactor design for suitability for deployment across European Regions. He has also worked in a Principal Mechanical Engineer role with Cavendish Nuclear, developing the concept scheme to proposal level for the build of a Uranium Reprocessing plant, reusing partially spent fuel to provide new reactor fuels, while minimising radioactive waste sentenced to storage from operating nuclear power stations around the world.
His expertise spans concept and detail design, radiation and hazard protection, decommissioning, and remote handling equipment, with deep experience across Sellafield, Rolls Royce SMR, EDF, Jacobs, Cavendish Nuclear, NNL and Ansaldo NES. He is a first-class honours graduate in Computer Aided Engineering (University of Bolton, awarded the Governor’s Prize) and is proficient in Autodesk Inventor, Vault and Navisworks.
As a trainer, Cameron draws on a career built from the ground up, from apprentice to providing regulatory and mechanical radiation protection advice and solutions for the future SMR build programme – to give learners a real-world perspective on mechanical engineering in nuclear environments. He translates complex technical concepts into practical, accessible learning, with a particular focus on design discipline, regulatory awareness and the standards that matter on live nuclear programmes.
