3D 360 received 62,600 live views of our Career Friendly 3D Printing careers talk for schoolchildren and educators through our Career Friendly broadcast. Now available to watch on demand

3D printing STEM for KS2 and KS3 children and educators

The session is a 28-minute STEAM broadcast delivered by Matthew Haughie, one of our apprentices and trainers at 3D 360. It’s designed for KS2 and KS3 learners and the educators supporting them, with a fun yet practical look at how 3D printing connects to real jobs, skills and future pathways.

3D printing careers and future pathways, from imagination to real-world making

Matthew brings the subject to life by showing just how wide the possibilities are. He describes 3D printing as an area where creativity can keep expanding, because the moment you can turn an idea into a design, you can turn that design into something real. In the broadcast he explains that the technology can go far beyond simple models and classroom projects, from bold builds that capture imaginations, like creating a full Ironman-style suit, to serious applications that are changing how things are made.

He also highlights why 3D printing matters in industry, because it can produce shapes and structures that are difficult, sometimes impossible to manufacture using traditional methods. That capability opens doors across engineering, product design and manufacturing, while also helping students see why learning to design, test and improve ideas is so valuable.

3D printing materials and applications, from carbon fibre to medical innovation

The session explores the growing range of materials too, including options to 3d print in carbon fibre, metal and even concrete, alongside everyday polymers. Matthew shares examples that make it tangible, from 3D printed instruments like violins to larger scale innovation in areas such as vehicles. He also points to how advances in materials are supporting medical progress, with new prints that can behave more like human tissue, helping developments in healthcare and related research.

Throughout, the message is simple and energising, 3D printing is a space where curiosity and creativity meet real-world problem solving and the applications keep widening.

A practical example of our commitment to social value

At 3D 360, our social value programmes are not a tick-box exercise. We focus on creating genuine opportunities and accessible learning that supports young people, schools and communities.

Traditional careers outreach often relies on one or two engineers visiting a school for an hour, reaching a single class or year group. By taking a digital-first approach, we can share the STEM careers insight with thousands of young people across a much wider geography, in a format that’s easy for schools and families to access and replay when it suits them.

This broadcast is designed especially for primary and secondary school students and educators in Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, helping schools across the region access the same high-quality careers insight without the usual barriers of time, travel and capacity.
